The
Fence of Salvation: An Allegory of Hebrew and Aramaic Word Pictures by Janet M.
Magiera answers many questions from a biblical viewpoint through explanation of
the Hebrew and Aramaic concepts, alphabet, and root verb meanings. This is a
fascinating way to grasp key Christian concepts when reading the Bible. When
one understands the original language and/or meaning, the truth unfolds. With
insight and encouragement, the author has put together a well-done and
beautiful book. As the author states, there are many instances when one reads
the Bible and perhaps certain concepts and phrases are not easily understood.
With the usage, interpretation, and application of the Hebraic and Aramaic
context, key concepts, phrases, and words are more readily understood. A word
picture develops from the Hebrew and Aramaic language, which will give a fuller
comprehension that strengthen faith and understanding of salvation in God, His
power and nature.
Each
short chapter begins with a pictograph with explanations and Scripture, along
with a summarization for better understanding. With pictures and examples of
the Hebrew alphabet, one will come to understand a beginning of how the
language and letters are put together. Readers will come to a deeper appreciation
and understanding. Salvation in the Lord God represents a place of rest, a
place of safety, provision, protection, and security. This concept is paramount
to understanding Jesus’ as the Good Shepherd and His pleasant boundary lines
that He has provided for all.
Within
this book, the author has done an immense amount of research and gathering to
be able to present this book to the Christian community. She has analyized
Hebrew Old Testament Aramaic Peshittta New Testament in her book because they
are primary sources. She writes that considering that the Bible was written by
men who spoke Hebrew and Aramaic languages, the understanding of their language
is pivotal to the understanding of the full text. By understanding the
culture as well gives a better understanding of the mindsets of the men who wrote
the Bible. Thus, the author has included these views. Readers will gain “a
firmer foundation of their faith.”
The
author inspires readers in, “We can gain insights into the key words of
Christianity by examining the word pictures of the words and seeing their
corresponding actions. Word pictures are a great way to communicate concepts.”
Her hope in presenting such a book is so that faith, knowledge, and belief are
enhanced in the knowledge of seeking and becoming more like the Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ. She also desires that all would have the eyes of your
heart open, “…so that you would know the hope of his calling and what is the
wealth of the glory of his inheritance in the holy [ones].” (Ephesians 1:18)
A
wonderfully explorative and life-giving study! You
